Linux On Mars

February 20, 2021 Technology
What an excellent time to be alive. NASA’s Perseverance Mars Rover just landed on Mars. It’s exciting, I’ve started following official Perseverance’s Twitter account, and I’ve learned so much. I suggest you do the same using RSS via a Nitter instance. I’m a fan of space and space exploration, so in the following months, you might read more about it from me. More people should start thinking about space exploration since it can give you a better understanding of life.

Bitwarden Is My Password Manager

February 19, 2021 Technology
A few years ago, when choosing a password manager, I researched and tested multiple password managers; Bitwarden won. I’ve been a happy user of Bitwarden since I first started using it. Bitwarden has become an essential tool in my online life. It doesn’t just hold keys to my accounts; it’s a record of my online activity. Since I started my privacy journey, I’ve been on a quest to delete accounts, files, folders and more that I don’t use.

Tools And How They Use Them

February 12, 2021 Personal
I’m always fascinated by how other people do their job. I love to know the thought process that went into making their studio or home office. I’m interested in people’s internal rules that help them live their life. I never was a super fan of NASA or space, but I’m intrigued about it. More so about the International Space Station, because it just looks so cool, but most importantly, every piece is designed to serve a purpose.

Buy Nothing Project

February 6, 2021 Personal
This year, I started a new personal project; a buy nothing project. I heard about it while reading an article from New York Times called It’s Not That Hard to Buy Nothing. The idea of buying only essential things may sound strange and unfamiliar, but that’s ok. In our consumerism driven culture, it’s hard to imagine not to purchase anything. To you, a reader, this idea may sound easy and hard to follow at the same time when you think about it.

Global Warming and Democracy

February 3, 2021 Essay
Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway said something like that the next richest person will be an environmentalist or more specifically someone who will solve global warming problems. I think it’s a reasonable prediction that is already showing with Elon Musk, co-founder of Tesla - an electric auto-mobile company, taking the spot from Jeff Bezos as the richest man. In my opinion, Jeff Bezos is over-praised; he is no different than Wall Street people that Redditors are currently short squeezing.

Deactivating Social Media

January 26, 2021 Personal
After my last exam this semester, I’m taking a break from social media. I did well on the exams I’ve already taken, so I want to take a break from social media as a gift for my hard work. After the last exam in a couple of days, I’m deactivating my Facebook and Twitter accounts, the only two social media I currently have besides Linkedin. I don’t know for how long I’m doing it, but at least for a couple of days.

Own Your Email

January 20, 2021 Technology
I’ve read this post on r/Privacy, sometimes a toxic subreddit, but it got me thinking. The post is about a ProtonMail user who got his account suspended for no apparent reason, without any good explanation. I’m a ProtonMail user, but I’ve seen multiple cases of this behavior. I’m thinking about moving away from ProtonMail service. I have my email domain, so even if ProtonMail suspends my account, I can still access other internet accounts.

Brand Influence

January 17, 2021 Essay
Why are we things driven society? Why do we value our things so much? I think it’s partly evolution’s fault since better tools meant a higher rate of survival. People who were close to someone with a weapon had a higher chance of survival. In today’s society, that instinct works against us. I don’t understand why do people care so much about brands. Can you tell me any good reason to defend a product designed by a big corporation and (probably) made with child labor or unfairly treated workers in underdeveloped countries?

Influx Of Extremists

January 16, 2021 Privacy
I’m all for privacy-focused and decentralized systems where censorship is limited or even impossible. End-to-end encrypted conversations or decentralized social media platforms are designed this way, for the good (or bad) of everyone. I can understand why sometimes censorship as bad as it can be is necessary to prevent the worst from happening. We’ve all seen what happened on January 6th, 2021 and big tech’s reaction to the crisis. As a European citizen, I’ve been closely following the US’s situation, and I’m still worried.

Hello, Internet

January 14, 2021 Personal
Hello and welcome to my personal blog called Set Of Principles. Every human has a set of deeply internalized values that help us make decisions daily. I want to express some of my views, mostly about technology, and explain how my values help me choose a better, more sustainable technology. Today we are more and more dependent on large tech giants to help us with our daily activities; I’m talking about Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple… I believe that decentralization and regulation are necessary for the prosperity of our civilization.
